I love our Lowcountry birds and when I learned of the now-extinct Carolina Parakeet, I was a bit sad to think that we could have had a member of the parrot family flying around and in and out of our magnificent Magnolia trees. My "Parakeet" series is my small attempt to memorialize the Carolina Parakeet and raise a bit of money for Lowcountry wildlife preservation.
To represent the Parakeet, we have a luxurious top of Canary wood, carefully selected and book-matched to bring out the most color possible. The back was selected from a single piece of Magnolia (it must have been a big, beautiful tree to have a trunk that large) harvested by Lowcountry Raw Lumber in Pritchardville. The "cathedral" that rises through the back is stunning -- I had to use ferrules for the neck screws (instead of a typical steel plate) so I would not cover up the tip of it. Natural finish because it was the right choice for these woods.
Gotoh "Cosmo Black" hardware and quality electronics -- including a pair of hand-wound P90 pickups -- round out a beautifully setup guitar that you will enjoy for years to come. There's an openness and sparkle to the pickups that you have to experience to appreciate.
NOW AVAILABLE! $1295 with a new Gator hard case. Shipping CAN be arranged for this item. Currently on display at the Rhett Gallery and you are welcome to go play it. Holidaze Special at $895 -- so "out the door" in a new Gator hard case with this locally handcrafted guitar for under a grand.
Note: $50 from every Parakeet sale will be donated to a Lowcountry conservation group, in memory of the Carolina Parakeet. https://johnjames.audubon.org/last-carolina-parakeet
